The index since Sep 13, 2026
How the index works
- Source: a daily sample of eBay US listings, used condition only.
- Price: for each drive, the median delivered price (item plus shipping) with each seller counted once, so one seller with many listings cannot set the figure. Divided by capacity to give $/TB.
- Minimum sample: a drive's day counts only with at least 5 listings from at least 3 sellers.
- Index: each drive's $/TB divided by its own Sep 13, 2026 value; the index is the median of those seven ratios, times 100.
- Fixed membership: Seagate Exos X18 16TB and 18TB, Exos X20 18TB and 20TB, Exos 24TB Renewed, Exos 26TB Recertified, and Toshiba MG08 16TB. That is six Seagate and one Toshiba, and no WD: no used WD Ultrastar has enough listings. So this tracks these drives, not the whole used market.
- Excluded: Amazon and Newegg, and new listings. New prices on eBay mostly reflect resellers' asking prices, which move differently from what used buyers pay.
- Gaps: if any of the seven drives misses the minimum sample on a day, or its collection run for that day did not finish, the day is left blank rather than averaged over fewer drives.
